Bathroom Bliss
People underestimate the importance of the bathroom and forget that those ever indulgent baths or sumptuous showers can be the perfect end to a stressful day. Designing a bathroom today is about so much more than picking out some white tiles and choosing a shade of paint for the walls.
Relaxation is central and today there are so many ways in which we can enhance it – under floor heating, steam and water proof plasmas, wall hung fixtures, all add the extra wow factor to a room that would otherwise be subject to neglect.
Baths, basins, taps gadgets – where do we start? Attention to detail is central as the bathroom is often small so needs to be carefully designed. By browsing through specialist magazines you can gain a sense of the look that you want to achieve and the layout needed to create it.
By taking into account the type of water supply you have and the positions of the pipes, the options open to you will become apparent. A bathroom designer could be useful here, some come for free but others can cost anything between £100-£200.
Heavenly heating
It’s bad enough having to get out of the shower on a morning, so at least make sure you step out into a toasty temperature, purchase a heated towel rail, and invest in under floor heating. No longer a luxury but a must, this is surprisingly economical to run and can be used in certain places to optimise efficiency.
Luscious lighting
By using the correct lighting your bathroom can be transformed into an ambient setting that you look forward to spending time in. Candles can add the finishing touch but the use of dimmers and separate switches to produce different effects in different areas of the bathroom, illuminated cabinets and low level LED lighting to project a warm glow across the flooring are all key to creating a relaxing haven.
In Trend Technology
Gone is the time when you have to squeeze in a quick shower in between programmes, why not install the latest high-tech gadgets to enable you to listen to music, watch your favourite programme and spend as much time as you want in the shower…
Fixtures and Fittings
Let’s go back to basics. Basins are now so much more aesthetically pleasing than they used to be, available in a range of shapes and sizes. Taps and gadgets must be chosen accordingly, to compliment the interior, I would recommend brushed or polished chrome over brass. And tiles – always use a good quality tile, but more importantly a well recommended tiler!
The most important important piece of information of all that I can give you is to shop around and ensure that the products you have purchased will work for you. Don’t feel obliged to buy all your fixtures from the same supplier, have a bit of fun and explore…
